World YoYo Contest 2009

Worlds 2009 is finally over! That was fast eh? Congrats to all winners and new world champions!

Sad to say mickey placed 2nd again, for the 3rd year running. But this time i think it was partly because his freestyle lacked substance.

Anyway here are our new world champions for the year 2009.

1A Division champion - Shinya Kido (!!!)

I honestly didnt expect shinya to win, let alone beating mickey for the second time since CJ2008. This is a replica of his AP08 finals. But i think his AP performance was more interesting.

2A Division (returning) champion - Shinji Saito (o.O?)

What can i say? He lost his streak last year, and regained it back this year.

3A Divison champion - Kentaro Kimura

Kinda expected kentaro to win 3A...

4A Division champion - Naoto Okada

Also didnt expect this guy to win.

5A Division champion - Takuma Inoue

Never saw this coming either. Its too bad takeshi matsura couldnt attend worlds.

Artistic Performance Division champion - Rei Iwakura

Finally! Ive always wanted this guy to win the AP divison! Bloody epic performance!

Mickey's 2nd place freestyle. Like i said earlier, he lacks substance in this freestyle. Which is disappointing, its so NOT him. I still enjoyed it nevertheless, i always like his smoothness and physically defying tricks. But i have to admit this has to be one of his most boring freestyles to date. Its more like as if he played some random song on his ipod and started spamming tricks to it. Rather than strategically planning his routines and synchronizing his tricks and movements with the music. That is what gives mickey his identity and in my opinion, his greatest ability which i have always been fond of. But dont get me wrong, it was still an amazing freestyle and i enjoyed watching it. Unfortunately it wasnt quite what i expected from him, especially since third time is the charm. Perhaps this year he was trying to focus more on the technical execution of tricks rather than performance.

Last but definately not least, congratulations to Singapore's very own MARCUS KOH for ranking 9th in the world for the 1A division! Amazing freestyle, although the mistakes he started making in the second half pretty much deducted most of his points. =(
